Operation Strengthen
Program Description
Operation Strengthen is a program designed to provide capacity-building services to faith-based and community-based organizations serving youth placed at risk in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Through provision of the training, technical assistance, and sub-awards administered through the Center for Community Safety, Neighbors for Better Neighborhoods, and the Department of Public Health Sciences of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, these services will be accomplished. Operation Strengthen is funded through a Federal grant from the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Community Services.
Objectives of Operation Strengthen:
- To provide training to faith-based and community-based organizations serving at-risk youth in Forsyth County in an effort to increase the organization’s knowledge base and skill level in five critical areas:
- Leadership Development
- Organizational Development
- Programs and Services
- Funding
- Community Engagement
- To provide twenty sub-awards to support development, effectiveness, and sustainability of faith-based and community-based organizations.
- To increase the number of skilled faith-based and community-based organizations working with at-risk youth in Forsyth County.
To evaluate the effectiveness of capacity building training and customized technical assistance provided to faith-based and community-based organizations.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Your organization must serve youth placed at risk in Forsyth County, including youth 12-24 years of age.
- At least two representatives from your organization must attend Operation Strengthen Orientation on January 19 or January 21. (Click here to obtain a copy of the form online)
- Your program must have been in existence for at least one year and have a statement of purpose.
- Your organization must have at least one staff person and/or a board of directors (or some other type of governing body).
- You must complete a baseline survey as part of the application process.
- Your organization’s annual budget must be less than $180,000.
Your organization must not have previously received federal funding.
